about Us

Glitter Cowgirl Equine Services is owned and operated by Laura Smyth.  Laura is a Kansas girl, born and raised.  She grew up in a small town, in rural Southwest Kansas.  A large portion of the community were farmers and ranchers.  She had many pets growing up, but never a horse of her own.  She was often caring for some animal in need, from baby bunnies, young chicks, and even a bucket calf.  Much of Laura’s family thought she would go into veterinary medicine, but she decided on computers instead.  Laura moved away for college, got married, spent a few years on the East coast, but came back to Kansas to raise her kids close to family.  Laura made her childhood dream of owning a horse a reality in 2005 buying a beautiful Palamino Paint mare with one brown eye, one blue eye, aptly named “Pretty.”  She’s had a few other horses pass through her life since then, but Pretty is still her trusted riding partner.  Laura has spent many years working in the computer & technology field, but her passion has always been animals.  Pets have included aquariums full of various fish (fresh water & salt water,) Anoles, Chinese Water Dragons, an Iguana, small birds up to larger parrots, small animals like hamsters, guinea pigs, bunnies, ferrets, chinchilla, cats, and many wonderful dogs, most trained solely by her.  She even had a growing pet sitting business until 9/11 when everyone stopped traveling as much.

The kids are now grown, and she has several grandkids that she adores.  She’s now married to her high school sweetheart.  They love camping and taking the horses for trail rides.  Pretty has aged and is being retired to teaching the grandkids to ride, so Laura has spent the past 3 yrs gentling and training a BLM Mustang that she has named Renegade to be her new trail horse.  Laura has decided that it is time to put her passion for animals to work for her, and Glitter Cowgirl Equine Services is the result.
